As in English, German adjectives go before the noun they modify.
The difference depends on the gender of the noun and the case.
For example:
the beautiful city => die schöne Stadt (Stadt is feminine)
beautiful books => keine schönen Bücher (plural)
Some other examples of adjectives in German:
afraid => bange
beautiful => schön
cold => kalt
fast => schnell
slow => langsam
Possessive Adjectives
Adjectives in English keep the same form in all situations, but in German they can take on many endings depending on the words they accompany. The 3 separate series of endings are:
1. Endings used when preceded by definite article (der-die-das) or a "der-word".
2. Endings used when preceded by the indefinite article (ein-eine-ein) or an "ein-word".
3. Endings used when it is independent.
